Hailing from Birmingham is MC Magika a career that spans over 20 years with his roots lying deep within the whole rave culture. Magika’s career started back in the late 80’s during the explosion of the Acid house craze which sweeped the nation. Having attended his first event in Birmingham mesmerised by the bright lights, sparkling lasers, friendly atmosphere and pumping sound systems Magika instantly fell in love with the whole rave scene and wanted to be part of it.
It was within the Midlands where Magika learnt his trade mastering the MIC at events such as Quest ’ Mythology ’ Earthquake ’ Kinetic - Pandemonium to name a few. As a raver himself Magika looked up to a number of the established MC’s from this era that influenced him these included Man Paris & MC MC, which drove Magika to better himself. During the early 90’s Magika was approached by Carl Cox’s manager (who coincidentally wasn’t a fan of MC’s) to tour with Carl for the Carl Cox Concept. Magika’s career catapulted to new dizzy heights where he’d be performing to crowds in excess of 49,000 ravers. Throughout the mid-nineties Magika gained residencies at many of biggest promotions around the UK these included Dreamscape ’ Helter Skelter ’ United Dance. Where Magika would command the stage whilst mcing to a host for a number of artists ranging from Grooverider, Hype, Dougal, Hixxy Force & Styles to name a few. Magika turned his hand to making music in 1996 he produced Flashdance (What a feeling) which sold over 10,000 units worldwide. During this period Magika was voted Number One MC by the readers of both Eternity and Dream Magazine along with the Dreamscape ravers and the viewers of MTV Dance, recognition for the hard work over and devotion into the rave scene over the years.
In 1998 the listeners of Kiss 100 FM short listed Magika alongside in the top 4 MC’s. The other 3 artists that where included in the shortlist where all drum and bass mc’s from London quite an achievement for the Brummie! 1999 saw Magika sign to the Groove Connection agency, an elite Drum and Bass agency with its roster boasting premier drum and bass artists such as Fabio and Grooverider, Micky Finn, Ray Keith to name a few. During this time Magika toured with the agency’s roster all over the UK and Europe whilst performing at numerous events including Essential Festival. Introducing Magikstar this is Magika’s award winning live act which consisted of himself alongside, Joe Nebula of Nebula II fame (Reinforced Recs), DJ Thread & vocalist Temptress.
Magikstar won the Diesel U Music best breaks award in 2002 and performed to 20,000 people whilst supporting Moby. Magikstar went onto producing tracks for artists such as Bjork and Sting and toured with Busta Rhymes, Rahzel & Kosheen whilst releasing tracks on Urban Takeover and Moving Shadow. Magika is an mc with a lot of versatility and able to perform to various genres of music not only 4 beat hardcore, drum and bass but also to hard house too. At the turn of the millennium disillusioned with the direction hardcore was taking Magika started to gain work on the hardhouse circuit. 2002 saw Magika perform at the massive Dance Valley Festival in Holland where he performed to over 110,000 ravers ! In this very same year having teamed up alongside Yoji Biomehanika together they produced ’Hard house raver’ a massive Hardhouse anthem which not only sold over 100,000 records but was also downloaded by over 1million people in Asia as a ringtone! Over the years Magika has had a lot of media publicity being on front covers of numerous publications including M8 ’ Knowledge ’ Eternity. Magiak also made a number of TV appearances over the years, as he was the host when MTV Party Zone cameras hit Dreamscape and Rezerection (Scotland) interviewing many artists along with the ravers. For the past 5 years Magika has concentrated his energies into promotions these days with Raveology alongside his partner Jo. Raveology was born in April 2004 and has grown from strength to strength in a very short space of time. Raveology’s humble beginning began at the Lakeside in Kings Norton, B’ham a small country club where eon numerous occasion the club was filled to capacity.
It was only matter of time for Ravology to spread its wings and move onto to larger pastures in 2005 Raveology’s new home was Air Superclub, it is here where Raveolgoy has grown into one of the Biggest Drum and Bass events in the Midlands. Since the transition Raveology has gone onto staging sell out events around a number of the premier venues within Birmingham building a massive loyal fan base who travel regularly to the city. Outside of Birmingham Raveology has hosted tents at various festivals including Escape into the Park and Global Gathering. With the success of Raveology Magika and his team started their new venture, ’The National Drum and Bass Awards’. The first event was held at Air Superclub February 2007 attracting much media coverage. With the Awards being a major success it has grown into a colossal event a must for any serious drum and bass raver. The 2009 National Drum and Bass Awards was sponsored by Relentless Energy Drink with extensive media coverage from BBC 1 Xtra and Radio One broadcasting live to millions across the globe. Whilst attracting over 4,000 ravers from all the UK for one night in Birmingham, a massive achievement from Magika and his team. 10 years after being signed to the Groove Connection agency Magika returns a decade later.
